Flight Attendant Tip Friday: Just Do It!

This FATF is less about airline travel and more about getting the most out of life. In the past year or so, I've been keen on challenging myself to do new things or things that I never thought that I could do. I went from barely being able to run half a mile to running 3 miles fairly easily. I started living a vegetarian lifestyle. I started doing yoga this week because I needed some diversity in my workouts (read: I was getting bored) and I want to be more flexible. And most recently, I decided to push forward with something that I've been wanting to do for 8 years. More news to come on that soon! *crosses fingers*

In all of these little life challenges, I've learned that the process in reaching the goal is just as important as reaching the goal itself. All of those times that I had horrible 5k training sessions paved the way for me to be able to run my first 5k in April. All of the times where I had to get creative with my food prep or a restaurant's menu led me to be more mindful about what I ate.

I'm at the point in my life where I'm not going to let fear talk me out of trying new things or attaining new goals. My desire to complete certain goals outweighs the fear that's trying to hold me back.

So, what goals do you want to attain? What dreams do you have?

Want to pursue a different career? Start making the plans now. Want to open up your own business? Start researching small business plans. Want to go on vacation to a certain place? Start researching and saving now. Want to learn another language? Check out Duolingo, Babbel, Rosetta Stone, or your local continuing education center. Want to work out? Find what works for you. Get a personal trainer. Partner with a friend. Want to nap for 10 hours? DO IT. I believe in you! That's what Sundays are for, amirite?

I'll end this post with a quote by Henry David Thoreau from his memoir Walden:

"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."

Live deliberately. Suck the marrow out of life.
